Kabar duka tersebut pertama kali disampaikan Vino G. Bastian melalui WhatsApp pada Jumat (8/12/2023) pagi. Pesan ini disampaikan pihak keluarga kepada sejumlah pekerja seni Tanah Air.
Yayu Unru menghembuskan nafas terakhirnya di RS Yarsi, Cempaka Putih, Jakarta Pusat pada Jumat, 8 Desember 2023, sekitar pukul 07.05. Saat ini jenazah Yayu Unru berada di rumah duka di kawasan Kayu Putih Utara, Pulo Gadung, Jakarta. Dikutip dari Showbiz Liputan6, jenazah akan dimakamkan hari ini.
Semasa hidupnya, kariernya di dunia perfilman sangat cemerlang. Almarhum sempat meraih dua Piala Citra dan turut mengantarkan sejumlah film menduduki tangga lagu box office. Yayu Unru juga membintangi serial The Last Of Us episode 2 bersama Christine Hakim.
