NABR Mengajukan Petisi yang Diperluas Untuk Menolak Daftar Kera Ekor Panjang yang Didaftarkan IUCN
Washington, (ANTARA/PRNewswire) – Bekerja sama dengan ilmuwan independen ternama, hari ini Asosiasi Nasional untuk Penelitian Biomedis (NABR) mengajukan petisi yang diperluas kepada Persatuan Internasional untuk Konservasi Alam (IUCN) untuk menolak penetapan monyet ekor panjang ( Macaca fascicularis ) sebagai spesies yang “terancam punah” atau “rentan” berdasarkan kriteria daftar IUCN. Pada 12 Oktober 2023, Komite Standar dan Petisi IUCN menerima petisi awal NABR yang menentang pencatatan kera ekor panjang oleh IUCN pada tahun 2022 sebagai spesies yang “terancam punah”. Petisi awal NABR, yang diajukan ke IUCN pada 11 September 2023, menyimpulkan bahwa alasan ilmiah yang mendasari daftar Terancam Punah adalah “sepihak” dan “tidak didasarkan pada informasi ilmiah terbaik yang tersedia.”
Sebelum Juli 2022, kera ekor panjang ditetapkan sebagai spesies “rentan” oleh IUCN. Pada tahun 2022, IUCN merevisinya menjadi “terancam punah” berdasarkan tinjauan ilmiah yang diterbitkan oleh Hansen dkk. (2022). 1 Petisi NABR yang diperluas kini menyerukan kepada IUCN untuk menghapus spesies tersebut dari daftar “terancam punah” dan “rentan” sampai “penilaian status baru terhadap M. fascicularis dilakukan oleh ilmuwan yang benar-benar independen dan tidak memiliki peran advokasi terhadap spesies target tersebut. ”
Petisi NABR yang diperluas ini diajukan setelah terbitnya American Journal of Primatology, sebuah jurnal ilmiah terkemuka, yang mengulas informasi ilmiah yang digunakan untuk menentukan status konservasi kera ekor panjang.
